Chris Yoo

1. Welcome.  At 7:00 p.m. on this 14th day of March 2024, Chris welcomed members old and new, and a few guests.

2. Program:  Roseanne from Anna’s put on a fantastic program about all kinds of binding and gave tips and tricks on better binding this evening.  She was also present earlier this evening putting on an English Paper Piecing workshop for a large group of attendees.  Thank you, Roseanne!!

3. President’s Message: Chris’ talked about the guild’s continued presence at the Original Sewing and Quilt Expo this year, noting that the show has once again returned to the IX Center and the airport.  She put out a sign-up sheet for volunteers and encouraged everyone to sign up to be an ambassador at the show!

Chris talked about the 2024 Quilt Raffle and thanked Margaret Miller for the donation of the applique blocks that were her late mother in laws, and Chris thanked Barbara Brush for the custom quilting donation.  The quilt is stunning!!

Finally, Chris reminded everyone that in APRIL our sew day and meeting will be on the 3rd Thursday—April 18th.  The entire hall is rented for the 2024 Holy Mackerel Fishing Tackle Event on our typical 2nd Thursday.  Chris asked that everyone spread the word about the change in date for April.

4. Approval of Minutes:  The minutes from the February meeting were distributed by Kelly Grace.  After a call for corrections or changes, having heard none, the minutes were approved as distributed.

5. Treasurer’s Report (Sue Schillig).   The treasurer’s report is filed for audit.  All questions about the finances of the guild should be directed to Sue.

6. COMMITTEE REPORTS. The membership heard reports from all Committees that were present.  The Committee Chairpersons will submit their individual reports to Kelly Grace for inclusion in the newsletter no later than the Saturday before the next meeting.  For up-to-date information from the Committees, please review the individual Committee Reports noted in this newsletter.

7. Unfinished or On-Going Business:  Chris discussed the final version of the guild handbook and bylaws which were up for a vote this evening.  There was a motion that was seconded to approve the amended bylaws which passed.  The record will show that the Bylaws and Handbook were approved at the March 14, 2024 meeting.

Chris also asked about the status of nominating a new President.  As a member of the nominating Committee Sue Schillig spoke to the group about the process and encouraged members to come forward to volunteer for this office.  Sue also shared that Marcy Delavan had agreed to be Secretary in the new fiscal year, which begins September 2024.

Some years all just chock full of milestones and this seems to be one of those years.  The UFO list is long but there are several priority items which might mean I get fewer finishes.  But the finishes I do get will be ones I’ve been looking forward to for a long time.

I am much more cautious now when I decide to do groups of quilts. You know what I mean, the baby quilts for each grandchild, hand quilted  (Turned out to be 7).  The first bed quilts, also 7, but only the girls were hand quilted.  But there are FIVE girls and way back before five I decided the girls would get flower garden quilts, just like their mothers. Well,  I am about to put the last flower garden quilt in the frame.  Today I am cutting the t-shirt squares for the last nephew’s t-shirt quilt.  The jury is still out on whether the grandchildren get t-shirt quilts.  If so, they will not be double size, twin at best.  I guess this is a bit of a cautionary tale.  Be wary of what you start, in the event you’ll regret what you may have to finish.  No regrets here, but there may be quite a bit of celebration for sure!

Piecefully,
Sue Schillig

UFO Challenge

Out of 509 items that were submitted we already have 41 (8%) completed. Some members seem to think it’s a race to finish everything on their list 🙂 Everyone is making great progress on their UFO’s! Please remember that $5 is due to me when you sign up, if you haven’t already given this to me you can see me at the next meeting. This is to help with prizes that are given out at the December meeting – You must complete at least one of your UFO’s to be included for prizes.

Fat Quarter Exchange
Lists were sent out to those that signed up  on April 5th. If you did not receive the list let me know so I can get it to you. This exchange is where you buy or shop your stash for a fat quarter for each person on the list, based on what type/color of fabric they are looking for.

Monthly Challenge
Challenge issued at the February meeting – crayon challenge! Choose 2 crayons from the bag and make whatever you’d like using those colors. You may add 1 additional color and these are due at the April meeting. New challenge will be issued at the meeting.

Secret Santa Exchange
Secret Santa Exchange turned out awesome, sign-ups for the 2024 exchange will happen in July – there will be LOTS of time to make your gifts.

Block Exchange
I currently only have 1 person other than myself that have signed up for the block exchange. I’d like to get 6-10 members signed up. If I don’t have enough by the June meeting this will be put on hold until next year. Fabrics are posted below and I know they will be available at Sew Creative Cottage.

President’s Challenge
As Chris’s last challenge, she requested that you make a name tag. It must be something new – not something you already made.

Notes from the President
Chris Yoo

Wow, what about that total eclipse?!  That was awesome!!!  We really lucked out in Wellington, as there were high clouds but not enough to spoil the main event.

The spectacular ring of fire that shown around the moon was something to see, but even more surprising to me was the huge “HURRAY” that I heard coming from everywhere and anywhere!  I live in rural Wellington Township and I felt like I was hearing everyone in the county scream in jubilation almost simultaneously.  It was so cool!!!  I remember saying, wow, listen to that!

I wonder how many quilts we will soon begin to see that were inspired by this fantastic event.  Do you have one up your sleeve?  There is creative inspiration everywhere!

Happy Spring my stitching and quilting friends!!

Chris Yoo

Meeting Minutes:

1. Welcome.  At 7:00 p.m. on this February 8, 2024, Chris welcomed members old and new, and a few guests.

2. Program:  Tonight, we had the pleasure of welcoming Leslie and Josie of Hidden Stitches.  The ladies were a hoot and a half as they say.  The concept of “Hidden Stitches” truly surprised me.  If you were not at that meeting and don’t know these ladies, it may surprise you too!!  Each quilt has a hidden message because the blocks are strategically placed to spell out words in Morse Code!!  Fantastic idea!!!    Check out their website for more information http://www.HiddenStitches.com and they are also on Facebook and Instagram.

3. President’s Message: Chris’ message was short and sweet this month:  HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!!

4. Approval of Minutes:  The minutes from the February meeting were distributed by Kelly Grace.  After a call for corrections or changes, having heard none, the minutes were approved as distributed.

5. Treasurer’s Report (Sue Schillig).   The treasurer’s report and all financial documents of the guild were audited by Vicki Morris and found to be in good standing.  Sue announced that the rent for the hall went up slightly to $250 for the new year and since it was a minor increase, there was a motion that the guild renew the lease for 2025.  The motion was seconded followed by a brief discussion about how lucky we are to have this hall for such a small cost.  A vote was taken and the motion to continue to rent the hall at the new rate of $250 was approved.

6. COMMITTEE REPORTS.The membership heard reports from all Committees that were present.  The Committee Chairpersons will submit their individual reports to Kelly Grace for inclusion in the newsletter no later than the Saturday before the next meeting.  For up-to-date information from the Committees, please review the individual Committee Reports noted in this newsletter.

7. Unfinished or On-Going Business:  Chris continued to read through the updates to the guild handbook and bylaws and noted that each table had a red-line copy for members review and comment.  A few additional changes were noted and Chris indicated she would have the final version at the March meeting for approval.

8. New Business:    Chris reported that although it was not a sure thing until today, she can now confirm that the guild will have a table at the 2024 Original Sewing and Quilting Expo and there will be a 2024 Raffle quilt. Chris shared that the quilt blocks were donated by Margaret Miller.  They are hand appliqued blocks made by her late step mother-in-law, Elizabeth “Betty” Dunn.  Chris will have the quilt pieced in February so it can be quilted and bound in March so it’s ready for April.

Chris also reported that she needs volunteers to sit at the booth during the three (3) days of the show in 2-hour time slots.  The Expo is Thursday, April 18th, Friday, April 19th and Saturday April 20th.  If you volunteer for a couple of hours, you get into the show for FREE.  However, the parking is NOT free.  In years past, parking was $10.

On Friday, March 1st, I delivered 25 pillow cases to Blessing House, 50 pillowcases to Catholic Charities for their teen and their men’s programs.   They also talked with me about needs for their program “Help Me Grow”.   I also dropped off 25 pillowcases to We Care We Share for their various programs in Lorain.

So, in total, 100 pillow cases were donated on behalf of the Guild to charities in Lorain County.

If you have never volunteered at the huge Original Sewing and Quilting Expo in Cleveland, now is your time.  I’m asking that some of you please volunteer as an Ambassador to help bring recognition to the guild AND help to assure them they have us to depend on because they are giving us a FREE booth that normally costs $$$$.  I will be volunteering all day on Weds., April 17th to help hang quilts and special displays, and I’ll be setting up our booth.

The Expo is held at the IX Center at the CLE Airport.  There are classes and workshops, quilt displays, shopping, shopping, and more shopping, and it is a great road trip for friends.  It is truly three days of inspiration and fun. You can volunteer to become a part of this great event by becoming an Expo Ambassador.

The Ambassador Program is open to individuals as well as members of guilds and other fiber arts groups. As an Ambassador, you’ll earn free general admission on the day you volunteer (minimum 4-hour same-day commitment), special Expo prizes and even free class sessions!

Volunteer in as little as 2-hour increments for any of the Ambassador Opportunities such as a Classroom Assistant, Information Desk Assistant,
Studio Sprucer, Set-up Assistant, Greeter, White Glove Display Gallery Monitor, and so much more!

When you sign up, you will see a space that asks for your GROUP AFFILIATIONS.  Please list the Lorain County Piecemakers.  The link to the volunteer application is below:

Join me in stepping up to show the local quilting and sewing community that our members rock!!!

Meeting Minutes:

1. Welcome.  At 7:00 p.m. on this January 11, 2024, Chris welcomed members and a few guests to the first meeting of 2024.

2. Program:  Tonight, we welcomed Sara Hume from KSU to present a program on Ohio’s Historical Quilts.  She presented a wonderful slide show and told many stories about the quilts and the exhibit.

3. President’s Report: Chris began by wishing everyone a very Happy New Year!  Chris continued by letting everyone know that since 2024 will be her final year as guild president, she hopes everyone will participate in her last President’s Challenge, which is to make a new Name Tag, made of fabric or fibers.  It has to be brand new, made in 2024.  It can have either your full name or just your first name.  Wear it to a meeting and during show and tell, please plan on telling the group about your name tag, and what technique you used.  Chris asked that the tag be completed by the August meeting, which will be her last as President.

4. Approval of Minutes:  The minutes from the December meeting were distributed by Kelly Grace.  After a call for corrections or changes, having heard none, the minutes were approved as distributed.

5. Treasurer’s Report:  The treasurer’s report and all financial documents of the guild are filed for audit and can be made available for review upon request of the guild treasurer, Sue Schillig.  Tonight, Sue made the official recommendation to membership that the guild secure another Certificate of Deposit (CD) in the amount of $5,000.  There was a motion that was seconded.  Following a brief discussion and Q&A on the topic, a vote was taken and the motion to secure a CD for $5,000.00 passed.  Sue indicated she would take care of this business before the next meeting.

6. Committee Reports by Committee chairs.

7. Unfinished or On-Going Business:    In preparation for finding a new guild President, Chris wanted to take this time to explain the duties of the office of President, and Chris reminded everyone that the nominating committee is Marcy Delvan, Holly Francis, and Sue Schillig.

Chris reported that the duties of the Guild President include preparing the meeting agenda and preside at all official 7:00 p.m. business meetings, and to call special meetings when necessary, and appoint and remove the chairperson of standing committees.  The president shall also be authorized to sign checks in the absence of the Treasurer.  The president is responsible for opening and closing the meeting location; however, the President can delegate that responsibility to another officer or committee chair as needed, especially when the sitting President has a conflict.

Chris noted that the role of the President AND all members is to act as the “cheerleader” for the guild at public forums and to encourage new membership and promote the guild whenever possible. Chris went on to note that the TERM of the office is two (2) years.  The bylaws indicate that no member shall hold the same office for more than (2) consecutive terms without the vote of the membership.

Chris again asked that someone stand up and volunteer to be President for the next two (2) years.  She noted that she was not going anywhere and would absolutely be your coach and mentor; however, she was stepping down as the President at the end of day on August 8, 2024.  She asked that anyone interested should talk with her, Marcy, Holly, or Sue.  Chris also shared that the guild is in need of a secretary to take some brief notes at each meeting for inclusion into the newsletter.

8. New Business:   Chris read through some proposed changes to the Guild Handbook and Bylaws this evening.  Chris noted this would be the first reading of the changes and that she would email the full document with all changes noted to membership for review and comment prior to the February meeting so that the topic could be further reviewed at that time and more comments and suggestions could be made.  It was her hope that she could have a final copy ready for approval at the March meeting.
9. Announcements:  Chris reported that there was a special quilting exhibit at the Canton Museum of Art called, QUILT NATIONAL 2023 THE BEST OF CONTEMPORARY QUILTS and it is running through March 3, 2024.  You can find out more at CantonArt.org online.

Chris also reminded everyone that in April the guild sew day and meeting will be held on the THIRD Thursday   of the month (April 18, 2024) because the hall is rented for the 2024 Holy Mackerel Fishing Tackle Event on  our typical 2nd Thursday.  We will continue to remind everyone and put out special emails and social media  posts.

10. Show-n-Tell:  Creativity was in full force this evening.  Keep it up!!

11. Adjournment:   The next meeting will be Thursday, February 8th at 7:00 p.m., and our program will be Hidden Stitches – How to put meaning in your quilts.

Notes from the President
Chris Yoo

In preparation for my message this month, I looked back before I looked forward.  In doing so, I’m going to quote myself, as we now enter the guild’s 44th year . . .

“February 2020:  I will be forever grateful to the ladies who had the foresight to put into place the structure of this guild and the origins of the Bylaws all those 40 years ago. They laid the groundwork which supports us still today.  After 40 years, quilting still brings us all together for a purpose. Learning about quilting, evolving our quilting techniques, and supporting charitable organizations with our quilts, are all important aspects of belonging to the guild.  We are a group of individuals who can relate to each other because of our shared interests. I think you can find a friend anywhere in the country if you either show up at a quilt guild for a couple of meetings or attend a quilt show and sit at a community table. You are never alone when you are with quilters. ”

This brings us back to today, February 2024.  It is my sincere hope that those of you who also cherish this guild as I do, take a moment to consider who will lead us down the path for the next couple of years.  Each and every one of YOU is responsible to ensure the success of this guild.  If you read the bylaws that I emailed recently, you surely stumbled across the section that read, Article IV, Section 6: All members shall contribute to a committee or serve as an officer.

May our 44th anniversary year be the best ever my quilting friends.  Now, please talk to each other and discover your next President. . . perhaps it is you?

Quilt on!

Your Pres, Chris Yoo

February Bibs and Burp Cloths:
In February Marcy and Margaret will be demonstrating the ACCUQUILT.   Marcy will bring her electric GO BIG and Margaret the hand crank GO.   Maria will be bringing  Flannel to cut into Bibs and Burp Cloths.   So if you have ever had questions about the ACCUQUILT cutter, come over to our table and try it out.   We would also love to have help sewing the bibs and burp cloths.

There are still pillowcase kits available for those interested in making them for community service.

If you would like to make a quilt (twin size) for community service, but need material, see Maria.  If you can sew the top and/or back, community service will supply the batting if needed.

NEW COMMUNITY SERVICE REQUEST:

THE GIVING DOLL organizations has asked if we could help them by making 24”x24” doll quilts and doll delivery bags.   The are a great organization based in Norton, Ohio.   There is a very active volunteer group in Lagrange.   The quilts do not need batting as they are only 24”x24”.   Flannel can be used in place of batting or just use fleece as the backing—These don’t need to be thick.

We have their pattern for the bags and a sample bag to show you.   Every doll (pattern for this is copyrighted and very specific) that is delivered to charities around the globe comes with a quilt and tucked in a handmade bag.   Locally these dolls go to Blessing House and Ronald McDonald House amongst other groups as well.   They do have a website and Facebook page should you want to check them out.   Margaret attended a work session of the Lagrange group.  The dolls are very cute and very well crafted.  There will be copies of the bag pattern at the February meeting and a sample doll quilt.   If you have time, this is a great organization that brings much needed joy and love to many children in at risk (extreme poverty, medical, trauma, loss of family, etc) situations.

Meeting Minutes:
Chris Yoo

1. Welcome.  At 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 14, 2023, Chris welcomed members and a few guests to the 2023 Holiday Potluck.  Chris noted that tonight we are celebrating a wonderful 2023 that has passed, the upcoming holidays, and the new year that is knocking at the door.

2. President’s Report: Chris began by thanking the Honor Quilt committee, as they awarded her a quilt this evening for her military service.  Chris shared that she served in the US Army in the early 80’s as a military police officer and an undercover investigator.   Chris went on to share with the group that the Second Baptist Church (SBC) of Elyria, Ohio, in conjunction with their Adopt-a-School Initiative awarded 3 scholarships to quilt groups that were important to MaryAnn Grayson, who was not only one of our past presidents and members, but she and her husband were also active with the SBC.  The scholarships were awarded to the African American Quilt and Doll Guild, the Sewing for Pleasure Guild, and our own Lorain County Piecemakers Quilt Guild.  Chris reported that she and several members represented the guild at a luncheon on December 4th where she was presented with a scholarship check in the amount of $700.

Chris noted that she discovered that the mission of the SBC Adopt-a -School Initiative is to rebuild our community from the inside out with a comprehensive educational program designed to improve and enrich the lives of our youth and their families. And during the presentation of the scholarship, it was noted that because our guild serves the community and helps others, we were selected.  Their mission and this statement told me that this money is targeted to our community service efforts.  Chris asked if the guild members were okay with targeting this money for community service and there was a resounding affirmation.  The check was presented to the treasurer.

3. Approval of Minutes:  The minutes from the November meeting were distributed by Kelly Grace.  After a call for corrections or changes, having heard none, the minutes were approved as distributed.

4. Treasurer’s Report:  The treasurer’s report and all financial documents of the guild are filed for audit and can   be made available for review upon request of the guild treasurer, Sue Schillig.

5. Committee Reports by Committee chairs.

6. Unfinished or On-Going Business:    Chris reminded the group that at the last meeting she announced that she was stepping down as the President at the end of this term, on August 8, 2024, so she had asked for a nominating committee to be formed to help find her replacement.  Tonight, Chris reported that she has had two volunteers come forward and they are Marcy Delvan and Holly Francis.  Chris also said that he is asking her Treasurer, Sue Schillig to assist them if necessary, so that she has a current sitting officer on the committee

Chris reminded members that Marcy, Holly, and Sue are responsible for helping to identify candidates for open officer positions and they are the “go to” for all recommendations (nominations) from members for her replacement.  Chris pointed out that any member can also nominate themselves.  If you would like to be President, please talk with one of the 3 ladies on the committee and you are welcome to talk with Chris about the duties.  Chris shared that she knows there are many creative people in this group who would make a fantastic President so she is asking people to seriously consider stepping up.

A member reminded the guild that there is also an open Secretary position.  So, anyone interested in acting as the guild secretary should talk with Chris.

Finally, Chris noted that in the next few months she will start reviewing the responsibilities of the office of President so that possible candidates will know what to expect.

7. New Business:  None Noted.

8. Announcements:  A reminder was noted that in April 2024 the guild sew day and meeting will be held on the THIRD Thursday of the month (April 18, 2024) because the hall is rented for the 2024 Holy Mackerel Fishing Tackle Event on our typical 2nd Thursday.  We will continue to remind everyone and put out special emails and social media posts.

9. Show-n-Tell:  To say we are an amazing group of quilters, sewists, and needleworkers is the understatement of the year!  It was also noted that the Secret Santa exchange was a huge hit this year and it is not surprising because we have such a create group!!  We rock!!

10. Adjournment:   The next meeting will be January 11, 2024 @ 7:00 p.m.  Program – Sara Hume from KSU will present Ohio’s Historical Quilts.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Notes from the President
Chris Yoo

Happy New Year!!  I started out 2024 by looking BACK.  I pulled my President’s Message from January 2023 and noted that my number one priority for this past year was to help the guild pull off a successful quilt show.  Well, I think that goal was accomplished for sure, but the key word there was “help” because it took a huge committee of volunteers to pull of that fantastic show!!  This past year for the guild was very busy and very rewarding.  Our guild had many accomplishments including helping our community in so many ways such as through the Honor Quilts Committee presentations led by Chairperson Kaye Koler, and the efforts of our Community Service Committee, led by Maria Lucki.  We also enjoyed many wonderful programs and lectures due to the efforts of our Vice President and Program Chair, Margaret Miller.  We also had the opportunity to participate in many fun and create guild challenges thanks to the ladies who keep us creating, which committee is led by Chairperson Kelly Grace!
The upcoming year looks just as exciting and could possibly prove to be even better.  I believe my number one priority for 2024 is to help this guild nominate a new President and to make sure they have a solid foundation.

Please know that each and every one of you make this guild a success.  If you did not have the opportunity to attend many meetings in 2023, I encourage you to make a New Year’s Resolution to attend more in 2024.  If you cannot make the evening meetings, please stop in during the day and sew, quilt, stitch, or just chat with us!  A big part of this guild is “community.”

Happy New Year my quilting and stitching friends.

Your Pres, Chris Yoo

Community Service

Maria Lucki

Happy New Year!

We received thank you notes from We Care We Share and Genesis House for all the Guilds donations in 2023.

In 2023, the Lorain County Piecemakers donated 313 quilts, 655 pillow cases, and lots of misc. items (I.e. food, used clothing, shoes, household items, dog beds, etc) to various charities.  Wow.

The Lorain County Dog Kennel will no longer accept dog beds as they say the dogs tear them apart and create quite a mess and clog the drain pipes.   They would, however be very appreciative of any donation of old bath towels.

Pillow cases are always in need at many charities around the county.   I have more “kits” made up should you need them.    I also have material if you need it to make quilts or pillowcases for community service—just let me (Maria Lucki) know.

If you can make a quilt, quilt top (baby, lap, or twin size) for Community Service it would be wonderful.    If you cannot make a whole quilt, consider a 12 1/2 block.    We will be accepting block this year that can be assembled into quilt tops.   If you need fabric for this see Maria.

Maria will not be at the January meeting, but Margaret will be there with pillow case kits and can accept any completed project for Community Service.

Finally, I would like to extend a huge thank you to all who have helped by sewing, quilting, binding and donating.   The need in our community is great right now and The Lorain County Piecemakers is making a difference.   Many hands make light work.   Thank you all and Happy New Year.

Maria

STRAY THREADS…

Sue Schillig

Happy New Year!   I love the start of something new, even in winter!  I have taken a look at my past UFO list and started making my new one.  Last year I finished almost one third of the projects. This year the list is longer. How can that be? Well, I picked up a few more stray blocks that can be sewn into lovely quilts.  I was gifted a couple more unfinished projects.  I’ve plans for a few of my scraps.  I’ve a couple new ideas, and some left from last year.  I might try my hand at making a purse.  My fabric bins are overflowing, and ideas are not far behind.  When my granddaughter Alice asked what my resolutions were for this year, I told her I don’t make those anymore.  Too many times I’ve resolved to do something and couldn’t keep it up.  But I do make goals.  In 2020 I made a goal of 20 quilts finished and reached my goal.  I’m not trying for 24. But I’ve set a few goals.  Make a few community service quilts, like 2 or 3.  Finish some on the list. Have fun.  Shrink the stash.  All good goals and doable as well.  Hope you are having a great start to the new year.

Piecefully,
Sue Schillig

Notes from the President
Chris Yoo

To say our show was a HUGE success would be an understatement.  We received rave reviews. Everyone was amazed at the wide variety of quilts we had on display.  One nice gentleman said it was “a feast for the eyes.”  I could not agree more.  We had a bus tour of 39 ladies from Utica, Ohio and they loved the show!!

I want to thank everyone again. It takes many hands to put on this quilt show, and we rocked it!  I would like to recognize all the members who volunteered their time, talents and quilts.  We would also like to offer a special “Thank You” for committee chairpersons and their committee members.  Without you the quilt show would not be possible. Those are:

Teri Walter, Kaye Koler, Helen Smelser and Val Watring (Raffle Baskets)
Genny Dangerfield and Margaret Miller (Quilt Show Cafe)
Julie Bragg (Quilt Show Layout & Quilt Stands)
Karen Neuschaefer (Ads, Door Prize, and guidance in many areas)
Jean Tobia, Maryann Doucette, Fran Webber, and Peggy Huges (Country Store)
Val Watring (Advertising)
Kelly Grace (Typing and Printing Labels, Newsletter, blog, website and keeping our forms up to date)
Susan Schillig (Quilt Show Program and Treasurer extraordinaire)

And to all those who donated items for the baskets and country store, and for everyone who entered something in the show to help make our 2023 show a success—Thank you so much!!!

Also, there was no way we could put on this caliber of a show without all the wonderful volunteers who stepped up on Thursday to setup, then again every day of the show, and then finally on Sunday to tear down.  To everyone who volunteered to help THANK YOU!

For the record, the Lorain County Piecemakers held their biennial Quilt Show September 15-17th, 2023 at New Russia Township Lodge, 46300 Butternut Ridge Road, Oberlin, Ohio.

The Raffle quilt was won by Megan Mitchell.  Both winners are here in NE Ohio and will be picking up their prizes during the quilt sew day in October.

The Viewers’ Choice was awarded to Donna Clapper for her beautiful, amazing cross stitch quilt called, “Old World Santas.”

REMINDER: THERE IS NO SEPTEMBER MEETING DUE TO THE QUILT SHOW!!

Meeting Minutes:
Chris Yoo

Welcome.  At 7:00 p.m. President, Chris Yoo, welcomed everyone and some visitors this evening!

Program:  Ron Dickerhoof, the Male Quilter and his lovely wife presented this evening.  Ron had a fascinating story about his quilting journey to share with us this evening.  His entertaining stories combined with his fantastic trunk show was fantastic!

President’s Report and Quilt Show UpdatesChris began by reminding everyone that the quilt show entry forms were due today.  Chris went on to note that tonight she needed a few more volunteers to sign up so she distributed the sign-up sheets again. Teri Walter reported on the Raffle Baskets and Jean Tobia on the Country Store. It was noted that Sue Schillig is oncourse to complete the program and Kelly Grace is working on the Quilt Labels and Entry Binders.  Julie Bragg indicated she would wrap up the quilting layout in the next few weeks, and Chris reported that she has secured all 5 vendors.  It was also reported that Val Watring was finalizing advertisements for the how and Chris would start her social media campaign in September.  Finally, it was shared that Ginny Dangerfield and Margaret Miller have the Quilter’s Cafe all in hand and should be ready to go.  Chris closed her message with three reminders:

  • Quilts are to be turned in at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 14th here at the hall.  That is Setup Day.
  • Quilt Show Entrance:  Guild members will need to pay the $5 admission price once, even if volunteering.  We will have our member sign-in sheet at the door for you to register when you enter the first day of the show so that you only pay once.  If you cannot volunteer this year, please still come support your guild’s show.  Bring your family and friends.
  • Quilts are to be picked up after 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 17th.

Approval of Minutes:  The minutes from the July meeting were distributed by Kelly Grace.  Following a call for any changes or corrections it was noted that no changes were necessary; therefore, the minutes were approved as distributed.

Treasurer’s Report:  The treasurer’s report and all financial documents of the guild are filed for audit and can be made available for review upon request of the guild treasurer, Sue Schillig.

COMMITTEE REPORTS by Committee chairs.

Unfinished or On-Going Business:    None noted this evening.

New Business:  None noted this evening.

Announcements:   Other than Quilt Show news, nothing else noted this evening.

Show-n-Tell:  Chris noted that if the variety and caliber of projects shown tonight during show and tell is any forecaster of the future, our quilt show should be AWESOME!!!

Adjournment & FINAL QUILT SHOW REMINDERS:

  • There is NO September meeting as that is quilt show setup day @ 9:00 a.m.
  • Quilts should be turned in starting at 11:00 a.m. on September 14th.  Do not come earlier unless you are helping with setup.
  • Quilt Show is 9/15, 9/16, and 9/17.  Friday and Saturday are 10-5 and Sunday 10-4.
  • You can pick up your quilt on Sunday after 4:00 p.m.

Challenges
Kelly Grace

UFO Challenge

Currently 15% of UFO’s are completed (96 out of 646). Keep it up, lets see if we can beat least years number of finishes. I’m hoping to have a few finished for the October meeting! Please remember $5 is required to participate, it goes toward the prizes at the December meeting. You can turn this in at the next meeting. If you cannot come to a meeting to show off your finish, please send me an email (or text) or post it in our Facebook group and let me know it’s a UFO so I can mark it down as complete. Good luck this year!

Fat Quarter Exchange
Fat quarter exchange turned out awesome this year as usual! If you were not at the August meeting and need to turn your fat quarters in, or pick up your fat quarters, please contact me. If there are any questions please let me know.

Monthly Challenge
Since the quilt show is next month, we’ll hold off on any challenges until the October Meeting.

If you have a suggestion for a monthly challenge, let me know!

Secret Santa Exchange
We are going to start signups for the Secret Santa exchange in August. We will leave it open until October and then I’ll send out names. That will give everyone 2 months to put together your gifts. Remember you must make something (any size), if you add items to it but the total must be under $25 and it must be wrapped or in a bag with their name on it. We will exchange gifts at the December potluck. If you’d like to sign up before the October meeting, just send an email to the guilds email address and I’ll get you on the list.

Block Exchange
On hold until 2024! Maybe next years Hoffman fabrics will get more people to participate! Please make sure your quilt tops from 2022 are completed in time for the quilt show, let’s show them off!

President’s Challenge
Make something using the Ohio Star block which is featured as our guild logo. There will be a special exhibit at the Quilt Show for the President’s Challenge.

Build a Bear Quilt Challenge
I was looking at some leftover scraps while trying to decide what quilt to make next, and it occurred to me that the ones I was looking at could be made into a little quilt for a teddy bear, so I just bought this cute little bear who will be the prize.

I propose that we make little quilts for this cute little critter and at the Christmas meeting we vote for our favorite homemade scrap quilt and award the little bear to its maker. If you want, we could include them in our quilt show with a sign explaining the challenge. I could take the little bear in to include in eh show, heck, how tough would it be to finish a quilt for a 7-inch bear in time for our fall show?

Your Pal, Susan the Bear Chump

MOVE OVER, BETSY Challenge
It occurred to me that I hadn’t nagged and whined enough about the create-a-flag challenge, so I decided that if a song title can be MOVE OVER, BEETHOVEN, then a quilt challenge can have an impertinent title too.

I’m working on a flag right now; Chris the Prez said we should list any challenge entries on our quilt show forms, and that would include the flag entries, and they’d count toward our three quilts, but the little quilts for the BUILD A BEAR QUILT Challenge will be small enough to have their own nook at the show.

Make your flag any way you like, any size, any colors. I guess I should figure out a prize, too, huh? OK, I’ll offer another nice little bear as the prize.

Notes from the President
Chris Yoo

It’s almost here!!!!  Our 2023 quilt show is almost here!!!  If you have not heard, we do have a tour bus stopping by bright and early on Friday morning!!  We are very excited to greet this group of quilters!!  I will be sending emails out again to show who signed up for what.  If you don’t get the email and you cannot remember, call or text me.  Note I may not answer the phone right away so if calling, leave me a voice mail and I’ll call back.

My message this month is short and sweet my friends, because my “to do list” is long and salty!  So I’ll close by reminding you to please spread the word about our quilt show to your family and friends!  Let’s break our past admission records!  Let’s make this show the talk of Northeast Ohio!!  Woo Hoo!!  We rock!!

Chris Yoo

Notes from the President
Chris Yoo

I hope everyone had a wonderful 4th of July holiday.  At the risk of sounding repetitive, TIME FLIES.  I know I say that all the time, but I seem to be obsessed with that fact.  As July ticks away, I am ever vigilant in my Quilt Show prep as I try to get my own entries finished.  I have several projects on my quilt show entry forms that are “in progress.”  So, I’m dedicating chunks of time to get them completed by September.  Working a full-time job and trying to manage an Etsy Shop, takes up a lot of my own “creative” time. My August “vacation” is going to be a “Quilt-cation” at home so I can finish my projects early.  I’m taking an entire week off to do nothing but QUILT.  I’m soooo looking forward to that week!

Speaking of quilt show entry forms, I hope many of you are ready to turn in your forms at the July meeting. It’s okay if you are still working on some of your projects, but please make a commitment to get them done by September 13th so they can be turned in on the 14th.

Although Val Watring and I have already started advertising the show, there will be a huge push in August and early September as I have several social media blasts ready to go, plus we will be giving out postcards at the fair, etc.  However, another fabulous way to advertise our show is word of mouth.  So please spread the word.  Remember that our quilt show is our biggest fundraiser and it allows us to keep the guild membership dues steady and at very reasonable $25 a year.   I will also be sending out by email a digital image of our postcard that you can share on your social media or in emails to your friends.

I hope to see many of you at the annual Christmas in July event this month!!  It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas….

Your Pres,

Chris Yoo

STRAY THREADS…

Sue Schillig

So much for summer being all relaxing and time at the beach.  The garden has required a good bit of time, and the quilting is getting short shrift.   So, as the title of our newsletter says, bits and pieces are how we roll in the summer.  I’ve managed to remove about one UFO a month, and done  a small bit on some other projects. But how to find more time?  Well, the embroidery is coming with me to the car dealership this afternoon.  They are used to seeing me sewing while waiting on my oil change.   Pieces are laid out by the sewing machine, on the off chance I can sew a seam or two.  If I could just take an hour and layer another quilt, it could be waiting for me to quilt as I get a chance.  Fits and starts, bits and pieces, and maybe some will get done.  Hope your summer is all that you want it to be.

Piecefully,
Sue Schillig

Meeting Minutes:
Chris Yoo

At 7:00 p.m. on April 13, 2023, President, Chris Yoo, called the meeting to order and welcomed our members and visitors.

Program:  Applique Any Which Way You Can.  This presentation by members, Sue Schillig, Karen Neuschaefer, Teri Walter, Laura Williams, and Julie Bragg was absolutely fantastic!!  A huge thank you goes to these ladies for proving there is always something new to learn in this fabulous hobby!!  It was obvious you love what you do and you went above and beyond to share your passion for applique with us.  Thank you so much!!

President’s Report:  Chris noted that until September her monthly report will consist, primarily, of Quilt Show Updates to cover any open items that need follow-up and to answer any questions members may have.

  1. Entry Forms:  Entry Forms will be distributed at the May meeting and then emailed to all members as well.  The form will also be available to download on the guild webpage after the May meeting.  Chris reminded the group that only members can enter items into the show. Important reminders about show entries:
  • You can enter 3 items.
  • You can enter a 4th “extra” items that MAY be accepted if we find we need more quilts.
  • You don’t have to enter just large quilts.  We love miniatures, wall art quilts, placemats, table runners, etc.
  • The DEADLINE for entering your items in the show is July 13th.  Absolutely NO entries will be accepted after July 13th because we will be creating the program and quilt labels at that time.  There will be no exceptions to the deadline so please plan accordingly.
  • The forms are due on July 13th, but quilts are not turned in until Thurs., September 14th, so you have plenty of time to finish something so get that entry form turned in for extra motivation!!
  • If you already know what you are entering, turn the form in sooner rather than later.  Don’t wait.
  1. We will also be collecting non perishable food items to be donated to the food pantry at We Care, We Share.   They get many donations around the holidays, but don’t so much this time of year.    We will also have a box out for gently used clothes and shoes for We Care, We Share.

If anyone would like to join in, we are having a Pot Luck lunch on the Community Sew day.   All are welcome.

Community Service is also looking for thread to be used in the making of community service projects.   Any color is fine.

There will be patterns and material at the Community Sew Day, but please feel free to bring your own material and project if you like.

If you knew Judy, please bring your favorite memories to share with those who never met Judy.

If you can, please come and sew with us on Judy Riggle Community Sew Day before the Guild meeting on June 8.

UFO Challenge

Currently 8% of UFO’s are completed (50 out of 646). Keep it up, lets see if we can beat least years number of finishes.

Signups for the 2023 Fat Quarter Exchange have closed and emails were sent out in April. You either choose fabric from your stash or go shopping for everyone on the list. Fat quarters are turned in at the August meeting, numbered bags will be handed out at the May meeting. If there are any questions please let me know.

Monthly Challenge
Crayon challenge projects are due at the May meeting. You pick 2 crayons from the bag and can choose 1 additional color and make anything you want with those colors. I have a new challenge that will be announced at the May meeting, it’s going to be a fun one!

If you have a suggestion for a monthly challenge, let me know!

Block Exchange 2023
I have 1 person interested in the block exchange for 2023, since I haven’t had anyone else that expressed interest we’ll put this on hold until next year.

Chris Yoo

This month I’m going to take the opportunity to SHOUT OUT a quilting celebrity you see just about every month.  If I ask you what quilting instructors or personalities you watch on YouTube, many of you may rattle off names like Jeannie Doan, Alex Anderson, Bonnie Hunter, Pat Sloan, or Kimberly Jolly just to name a few.  However, do you realize there is another great quilting personality and YouTube celebrity right here in our guild??

Our very own Stephanie Feador has a phenomenal YouTube channel called Stephanies Stitches.  She has over 14 thousand followers and growing.  Stephanie puts on large quilting retreats across the country,  and she has live quilt shows, giveaways, block of the months, quilt alongs, and so much more.
I would encourage you to find Stephanie’s channel on Youtube and follow her videos by hitting the Subscribe button.  Nothing like having a YouTube celebrity right here with us!

Here’s a link to Steph’s channel: https://www.youtube.com/@StephaniesStitches

Meeting Minutes:
Chris Yoo

At 7:00 p.m. President, Chris Yoo, called the meeting to order and welcomed our members and a several visitors this evening.

Program:  Lyn Fowl of Farmhouse Quilting Co. based in Elyria Ohio presented a trunk show and talked all about her online shop.  Lyn also brought a significant portion of her shop to vend this evening!

President’s Report:  Chris shared that because she will be hosting a table at the Original Sewing and Quilting Expo On April 13th, our VP Margaret Miller will be opening the hall for you at 10:00 a.m. for sew day.   Chris noted that although Margaret will open for you, Chris will still be at the meeting in the evening.  Chris reported that from now until the quilt show, her president’s report will consist of Quilt Show News and Updates.  At this meeting Chris discussed the following:

  • Vendors:  As of today there are 5 vendors confirmed: (1) Mike’s Fused Glass (2) Wool Yankers (3) Sew Creative Cottage (4) Quilter’s Fancy, and (5) Online Quilt Shop  Color Connexion owned by Merran Phillips. It was noted that we have had six vendors in the past, but Chris believes that five along with the country store is more than enough.
  • Raffle Baskets:  Teri Walter and her team are heading up the raffle basket committee.  Any new or like new donations should be given to Teri.
  • Country Store:  Jean Tobia and her team are heading up the country store committee.  Later this summer Jean will be accepting donations of handmade items and used or slightly used items for the country store.
  • Quilter’s Café:  Genny Dangerfield and VP Margaret Miller are leading up this committee to make sure we have sloppy joes, hotdogs, drinks and snacks in our café.  They will welcome help on show days.
  • Quilt Show Program:  Sue Schillig is going to put together the quilt show program and we need to start selling some advertising space to help pay for the program.  Ad costs are $25 – 1/3 page, (business cards, enlarged); $40 – half page  (4.25″H x 5.5″W); $75 – full page (8.5″H x 5.5″W);  $100 – inside front or back cover (full page); $125 – outside back cover (full page).  Please contact Sue Schillig for more information suequilt2@hotmail.com.
  • Advertising Online and in Publications:   Val Watring is helping with initiative which is very important as without visitors, our show would not be a success.  If you have any ideas where Val could advertise, make sure to pass those her way.
  • Door Prize:  Chris is still on the look out for a door prize sponsor.  She hopes to network with many area shops next month at the Expo in Akron.
  • Quilt Raffle:  Chris will be selling raffle tickets at the Elyria H.S. craft show on March 25th as well as at the Expo in April.   More shows in the works for the spring/summer.
  • Quilt Show Entry Forms:  Quilt show entry forms will be distributed in May and collected in June and July.  No entries will be accepted after the July meeting.  It was noted that the forms will allow for everyone to enter 3 items and list a 4th alternate in case there is room.  Starting planning what items you will enter for the show.  Remember you do NOT have to enter bed quilts.  You can enter throws, table runners, placemats, art quilts, etc.  Also remember all those challenge items you have made!  We want to show our creativity.

Approval of the Minutes:  The February minutes were distributed electronically by Kelly Grace.  Hearing no changes or corrections, the minutes were approved as distributed.

Treasurer’s Report: The treasurer’s report and all financial documents of the guild are filed for audit and can be made available for review upon request of the guild treasurer, Sue Schillig.

Committee Reports: The membership heard reports from all Committees that were present.  The Committee Chairpersons will submit their individual reports to Kelly Grace for inclusion in the newsletter no later than the Saturday before the next meeting.  For up-to-date information from the Committees, please review the individual Committee Reports noted in this newsletter.

Unfinished Business:  Chris and Sue joined to thank member Vicki Morris for completing an audit of the guild finances and both were happy to report that everything was in order.

New Business:  First it was shared that due to the recent resignation of the guild secretary, Chris is looking for a volunteer to take the minutes for each meeting.  Chris shared that she gives the secretary a summary of the agenda before each meeting so the task is not difficult.  Anyone interested should speak with Chris.

It is moved and seconded that the guild make a donation of $100 to the Lorain County 4-H endowment fund.  There was discussion about the endowment, noting that it distributes grants annually and supports many important 4-H programs across Lorain County.  A vote was taken which passed.

Announcements:  There were reminders about the following quilt shows:

Quilts 2023 @ Lake Farm Park in Kirtland, Ohio
Show will run March 31, 2023 – April 30, 2023

Sauder Village 46th Annual Quilt Show 2023, in Archbold, Ohio

On March 24th, 12 pillowcases were dropped off to Genesis House.   They would like at least 50 more.  Every resident that comes into Genesis House receives a new pillow and pillowcase to keep for their very own.

On March 24th, 30 baby quilts and 12 pillowcases were dropped off at Blessings House.   They also would like more pillowcases.

In June for Judy Riggle Community Sew Day, we will be working on twin size quilts for the new men’s rehabilitation center in Lorain.  They need 45 twin size quilts.  We will have sign up sheets for various jobs at the May meeting. We will also be collecting food for the food pantry at We Care, We Share.  Please no opened or expired foods.

Catholic Charities has requested 20 twin size (68×86) quilts and pillowcases for teenagers.

The Peace & Justice Committee of Sacred Heart Church in Oberlin needs household items for Ukrainian Refugees—especially twin size (68×86) blankets and quilts.  Quilts can be tied or quilted.

Programs/Workshops

April:     This month some of our members will be presenting “Applique; Any Which Way You Can”.  I know I am very much looking forward to it.  I love the looks of hand applique and would like to learn more about it.  They will be covering all different kinds, hand and machine.  Thank you very much ladies!

For the all day sew in April, anyone who would like to participate in the “Strip” Design Challenge, please bring at least twenty  2 ½” Width of Fabric strips.   Please do not bring strips that you just cannot part with or try to color coordinate them—you may not end up with the strips you brought.   In addition, I would suggest bringing a “blender/background” fabric—a yard or two.   Another thought I have been playing with is orphaned blocks.   If you any  orphaned blocks that may become part of your design, please bring those along as well.  The sky is the limit.   This is meant to be fun and not stressful.   I will be bringing a crock pot of sloppy joes and buns to share at lunch.   Just an FYI.

I will also have a short survey for anyone willing to fill out—It is basically about what “subjects” you would like to see for presentations and suggestions for workshops.   I have a couple of presenters that I am in conversations with and am amazed at how many prepared presentations they have.  I would like to choose wisely for the group, so I am asking for input.  If you want to put your 2 cents in, but won’t be at the meeting, no problem.   Feel free to shoot me an email:   mimawsews@gmail.com and let me know your thoughts.

May:  The Lorain County Spinners and Weavers Guild will be presenting their skills.   They will have demos, trunk show and some items for sale.

June:  JUDY RIGGLE ANNYAL COMMUNITY SEW DAY.   We will be working on the requested quilts for the new Men’s Rehab center in Lorain.  Many hands make light work.   There will be sign up sheets in May for needed workers and supplies (ie cutting mats, irons and ironing boards, etc).   There will also be some fun and games intermixed with the work.  It will be a fun and productive day for sure.

Felice Dahlhausen of Felice Quilt Designs will be our evening presenter.

July:  Merry Christmas in July Event.  Sure to be lots of fun.
In the evening, we will be having our annual Pot Luck dinner.  There will be no program.

STRAY THREADS…

Sue Schillig

Any which way you can is our theme this month for our applique program.  And it appears to apply as well for life right now.  Get the seeds in the ground…  any which way you can. Find time to quilt…  Any which way you can. Clear the garden beds… any which way you can. Make a community service quilt… any which way you can. Clean the house—wait–   that one may not be as critical. So…. as we try to do it all, let’s take some time to enjoy spring… Any which way you can!

First of all thank you to all those that have helped with sewing, those special ladies who have donated their long arm quilting talents, and those who bind the quilts.

Right now I am in need of people to make Pillow Cases for Genesis House.   There is a how to YouTube video by Shabby Fabrics on making a “Magic Pillow Case”.    It gives the cutting, sewing and finishing directions for making a wonderful pillow case.

I am in need of Twin Size quilts (45 of them) for a Men’s Rehab center in Lorain.   The approximate size of a twin quilt is 68” x 86”.  The size can Definitely vary a little bit.    If you can make a twin size “man” quilt top, quilt, etc.   it would be greatly appreciated. This could be a traditional quilt or even a rag quilt.   Since these are for adults, tying the quilt would also be acceptable.

Lap sized quilts are needed for the nursing home in Oberlin.   An average lap size quilt is 45×45 all the way to 50×60.

Sacred Heart in Oberlin needs quilts, new or gently used blankets, hats, scarves, gloves, etc for Ukrainian refugees.

Catholic Charities needs quilts and blankets for a variety of causes.

Wherever you can help would be greatly appreciated.

Maria

Programs/Workshops

March:  Lyn Fowl, owner of Farmhouse Quilting Co. in Elyria, is coming in to share her quilting and handiworks.   She will be bringing items for a trunk show and also items to sell.  Lyn does have an Etsy shop and is in the process (perhaps it is already up and running) of setting up her own website/shop separate from Etsy.

April:   Appliqué Any Which Way You Can will be presented by members of our very own Guild, led by Sue Schilling.    They will be showing us many different techniques, hand and machine.   They will also bring some of their own work for a trunk show.    Thank you ladies!

May:  The Lorain County Spinners and Weavers are coming to demonstrate spinning and weaving.   (You would be amazed at all the different ways they can spin fiber and all the different types of looms that can be used).   Their members make blankets, clothes, rugs, yarn for knitting and crocheting.   I am sure it will be a very interesting evening.

June:  JUDY RIGGLE ANNUAL COMMUNITY SEW DAY during the day.
Evening Program by Felice Dahlhausen of Felice Quilt Designs.

Warm Regards,
Margaret

UFO Challenge

Wow, one month into our challenge and we already have 33 completed items out of 646! Keep it up, lets see if we can beat least years number of finishes.

Signups for the 2023 Fat Quarter Exchange have started, you choose what color/theme you’d like to receive and you either choose fabric from your stash or go shopping for everyone on the list. Fat quarters are turned in at the August meeting, lists are send out to everyone by the May meeting.

Monthly Challenge
We had some wonderful blocks turned in last month for Quilts of Valor! Maybe we’ll do this challenge again later in the year. For March we are going to do the crayon challenge again, projects will be due at the May meeting. You pick 2 crayons from the bag and can choose 1 additional color and make anything you want with those colors.

If you have a suggestion for a monthly challenge, let me know!

Block Exchange 2023
I have 1 person interested in the block exchange for 2023, I’ll keep this open until next month. If there’s no additional interest we’ll put it off until next year. PLease make sure your quilt tops from 2022 are completed in time for the quilt show, let’s show them off! The fabric below is what we would be using for this year. It’s one of this year’s Hoffman Challenge Fabrics. Looks like we can pre-order it now, so if you sign up, please let me know how many yards so I can pre-order our fabric.

Do you have an idea for a challenge? Please drop a note in the suggestion box or send an email to the guild email (address above).

Notes from the President
Chris Yoo

Did you know that March is National Quilting Month?  Actually, the national quilting day is observed on March 18, 2023. It celebrates quilts and those who make them.  It is always celebrated annually on the third Saturday in March.   Here are five Interesting things that the common person may, or may NOT know about quilting.

  1. The word ‘quilt’ comes from the Latin word ‘culcita’, meaning a stuffed sack.  Stuffed sack?!?!  Really?
  2. There is an identity behind a quilt.  As many of us already know, quilters make quilts in such a way that they depict the quality of our lives or customs. Think of our quilts as a book of tradition where pieces of stories are sewed together.
  3. Quilt are seen as a precious heritage.  Quilters often make quilts that are passed down from one generation to the other.  They are precious heritage.
  4. Quilts were used for armor protection.  Medieval knights used quilted pads under their armors, to protect them from chaffing and to prevent the armor from rusting from sweat.  Eeeuuuwww!
  5. Interest for the potential husband?  During the 19th century, it was customary for a woman to show her quilting skills to her new husband.  I almost fell off my chair laughing over this one. It is for sure a different world today.

National Quilting Month should be a time for sharing our appreciation for quilts and the history of quilts.  It is a time to share quilting stories with our family and friends.

Quilting is a craft that can be dated as far back as 3400 B.C. Understanding the history of quilting and the value it this wonderful craft is just the beginning of understanding the connection between the past and present, as well as the creativity and heritage of quilting.

HAPPY NATIONAL QUILTING MONTH MY PEEPS!!

Your President, Chris Yoo

STRAY THREADS…

Sue Schillig

It was so nice to be back to our NEORQC Getaway this year after being away for the past two years.  Seems like the late nights of  the past though are history.  By 11 pm we were calling it a night.  Gone is the sewing to 1 am. Oh well.  What hasn’t changed is as I worked rapidly to piece the one thing I brought to work on, several more quilt ideas were born.  The question now is do I give birth to the new ideas or not?    Well time will tell but some I expect will find some fabric and space on a shelf.  A fun weekend was had, but the UFO list will not be diminished.

Piecefully, Sue Schillig
